Walking On Air With Supergrass Drummer Danny Goffey

Former Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey performed an ironic cover of ‘Walking in the Air’ on Aled Jones’ Sunday morning show on ITV.

The musician, who has recently released critically acclaimed debut album Take Your Jacket Off & Get Into It with his new band vangoffey, wasinterviewed by Aled Jones on ITV Weekend prior to performing, and Jones hinted: “I’ve been told that it’s a song dear to my heart, so I can’t wait to hear it…”

The band’s version of the song that sound-tracked The Snowman recalls Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’, fused with Goffey’s trademark wit – a definitive trait of the man who wrote classic comical Supergrass hits ‘Alright’, ‘Caught by the Fuzz’ and ‘Late in the Day’.

vangoffey’s debut album, which was released in October 2015 on Distiller Records, has been championed by the likes of NME, Q, Uncut, BBC 6 Music and Radio X, and Goffey’s mischievous wit on previously released tracks ‘Trials of a Modern Man’, ‘Sucker’ and ‘Race of Life’ continues to charm the nation.

The charismatic multi-instrumentalist currently resides in Somerset with his wife Pearl Lowe (singer of ‘90s post-punk band Powder and mother ofDaisy Lowe), along with their children, who have all starred in vangoffey’s videos. Goffey recently released a brand new video for single, ‘Sucker’ starring Daisy Lowe and her boyfriend Thomas Cohen.

It’s just over 20 years since Supergrass’ breakthrough hit album ‘I Should Coco’ was released, and Goffey has seen it all; from the highs and lows ofBritpop, partying and ‘90s Camden, experiencing Supergrass’ incredibly rapid rise to the top of the charts, to later briefly touring withBabyshambles in their heyday.

Goffey’s new line up with vangoffey consists of Drew McConnell from Babyshambles, Louis Eliot from Rialto, and the son of Florence & the Machine producer and Pulp bassist Steve Mackey – Marley Mackey. vangoffey are set to announce October tour dates very soon.

About The Sound of Summer

Hi, I am Alan. I live in Broadstone, Dorset with my wife, Shirley, my son, Ryan and two dogs called Bailey and Jasper. I have recently retired after working in the Armed Forces and in Public Service since 1977 so I now have a bit more time to do the things I love. Music is a huge part of my life and always has been. I have a broad taste in music and can find something to enjoy in most styles of music. I have always been attracted to music which has something to say, is outside the mainstream and is perhaps a bit rebellious. I guess my early influences were late 1970's Punk and new wave bands, especially those who came out of Northern Ireland where I grew up. I loved Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, Rudi, Starjets etc but also bands like The Ramones, The Clash, The Jam and so on. I like singer songwriters including Van Morrison, Springsteen, Neil Young & Bob Dylan and in recent years I have become more interested in folk and acoustic music but I also love the sort of high drive energetic Folk/Punk music delivered by bands like The Levellers, Leatherat, Ferocious Dog and many others who frequent the UK Festival scene. I have long since lost the desire to spend my holidays laying around in the sun and these days am much more likely to be found in a muddy field somewhere in the UK during the festival season.
