Thom Yorke Likens YouTube To Nazi’s

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has launched an astonishing attack on social media phenomenon YouTube.

Radiohead Frontman Yorke is well known for his dislike of streaming platform Spotify but it seems that Yorke has a special hatred for youTube.  According to Consequence of Sound Yorke likens the practices of YouTube and its parent company Google to that of Nazi Germany.

“All I know is that they make money from the work of many artists who do not derive any benefit. Service providers make money: Google, YouTube. A lot of money. ‘Oh, sorry, it was yours? Now it is ours. No, no, we are joking, it is always yours,’ They seize it. It’s like what the Nazis did during the Second World War. In fact they all did that during the war, the British too: steal the art from other countries. What’s the difference?”

Musically was less that enamoured with Yorke’s drawing comparisons with the Nazi’s and called it the “inappropriate comparison of the year”.

That Friday Feeling – Green Day

That Friday feeling is a place to share something with the world.  It could be a song, a poem, a painting or a photograph, anything at all.  There is but one rule.  Whatever it is must touch you on an emotional level.

In the week that we in the UK have remembered the fallen of a century of conflict it seems appropriate to reflect on the terrible waste of human life that war brings.  I have included three versions of Eric Bogles anti-war song The Green Fields of France (Willie McBride).  The first is the original my Eric Bogle.  The second by the Dropkick Murphy’s and the last by The Men They Couldn’t Hang.

This week’s tune is Mrs Potters Lullaby by the Brilliant Counting Crows.  This time tomorrow I will be on my way to Birmingham to see them for the first night of their UK tour.  Yahoo!  This fulfils a long held ambition as they are a band I have wanted to see for many years 🙂  I will be seeing them again next week too 🙂
